Shipment Structure Analysis and Simulation

Continuous shipment structure analysis is an important instrument for transport, storage location, consignment and shipping optimization in procurement and distribution logistics. Efficiency increase and cost reductions through consistent change management are only possible with a foundation of detailed knowledge of one’s own flow of goods.

Goods Flow Analysis

Our consultants’ first step is to compile key figures based on real data for evaluating a company’s shipping volume with reference to relations, areas of distribution, weight classes and transport prices. The goal of shipment structure analysis is to supply the client with an idea of the actual state of his logistic systems, as well as to define a possible starting point for logistic sequence optimization.

Custom Simulations

The selected approaches will be simulated in the second step, aided by in-house developed software tools – for example, transport cost simulations with SCALA or strategic routing and scheduling with TRAMPAS. These professional software tools are specially geared towards analysis of procurement and distribution logistics.

Targeted manipulation of real data can reveal the answers to such questions as:

  • What effect does enhanced drop shipping have on transport and storage costs?
  • Which results are involved in a redistribution of shipments in a specific weight range from one forwarder to another?
  • What influence does cross docking have on shipments that weigh less than 2 tons?
Optimization of shipment structures with various departure locations

Our Consulting Services:

  • Client, distribution and shipment structure analysis
  • Run time optimization analysis
  • Feasibility studies for diverse future scenarios
  • Determination of synergies in inbound and outbound traffic
  • Alternative transport scenario analysis and evaluation (e.g.: multi modal transport)
  • Determination of logistics points (e.g.: Cross Docking) in logistics network

The combination of decades of consultant expertise with the use of in-house developed, market-leading data processing systems offers our clients a tremendous advantage.
